Alexander Alexander was born in the latter part of the 18th century in Dundonald, Ayrshire. In this volume he recounts his experiences in Scotland and as a young man in the West Indies, and on his return to Scotland his enlistment in the army, and his experiences on military service in Ceylon, followed by his return to the West Indies (Barbados), and Demerara (now in Guyana). The Marrow Controversy took place in the Church of Scotland between 1718 and 1723 and focused on the relationship between God's grace and our works. The extracts illustrate the heart of the Marrow-men's teaching in defence of evangelical truth. In this book Andrew Bonar has selected the very best of these extracts to show the Old Gospel Way.
