One of the founders of the Cunard Line, Sir George Burns was an evangelical Christian and associate of Thomas Chalmers, who after contact with English evangelical Anglicans became an Episcopalian. This biography tells much of his contacts with many well known people both in evangelical Christendom and in shipping, chronicles the story of the division between the Scottish Episcopal Church and the evangelical English Episcopal Churches in Scotland, and also has an appendix cataloguing the G & J Burns and Cunard steamers. He was also related, through a sister's marriage, to the MacBrayne family.

Alice Mary Hodgkin is better known for her "Christ in All the Scriptures", and, if I remember correctly, Samuel Hurnard was Hannah Hurnard's father. Sadly it appears from elsewhere that both Alice's brother, a missionary in China, and Hannah Hurnard, moved into very unsound beliefs.
