1 012845 Kirkby, C Geoffrey Signs and Seals of the Covenant: A Review of the Doctrine of Christian Baptism
Amersham C G Kirkby 1986 095113020X / 9780951130209 Paperback Average Plus
. 193 pages, edges foxed. This book traces the outworking of God's great plan of redemption from its promulgation, through the course of history, to its consummation; which plan was embodied in the Covenant of Grace. Consideration is given to the signs and seals which God annexed to this Covenant, in both the Old Testament and the New Testament eras, particular regard being given to the significance of the period of transition between these two eras. An ingenuous look is taken at the various aspects of the rite of baptism - those who are entitled to receive it - its mode -and the relationship of this whole subject to the functioning of the local Christian church. In presenting an interpretation of the Biblical teaching relating to Christian baptism, an attempt has been made to avoid the influences of traditional viewpoints, and to re-examine the ground on which views are based. In order to do this, not only have essential meanings of words of Scripture been considered, but also the exposition of the text, and the context.
