. 290 pages, illustrated with one or two pictures per chapter; the title page, which is not entirely complete, and the following three sheets of preliminaries, and first sheet of text, together with the last two sheets of text, are encased in some kind of clear film to protect them from further damage. Lacks page 83-84; pages 186-187 are difficult to read due to printing issues; the rest of the text is legible apart from parts of the bottom of the title page; several pages have "Henry Pinckney His Book" to a blank margin. George Carleton (1559-1628), Bishop of Llandaff and later Chichester, was a delegate to the Synod of Dort, and was educated under Bernard Gilpin at Houghton-le-Spring and at Oxford. He wrote a number of books. Recently rebacked, with endpapers replaced. Perhaps the leather binding may be from the 1700s.
