. 167 pages. Robert Walker (died 1856) was a farmer who leased and improved the 131-acre Fyrish farm between Evanton and Alness. He claims to have come from a lowly background of limited education, but from the style of his writing he seems to have been a knowledgeable person. In these letters he lambasts David Carment, minister of Rosskeen for his involvement in the movement that led to the Disruption, claiming that it was political rather than spiritual, that his preaching was on occasions unspiritual and unbecoming and that his motives included a desire for power and popularity. He later attacks Alexander Flyter, Free Church minister of Alness, for his money-raising and his damning those who did not hold with the Free Church. He questions the Revivals in the area, claiming that they were whipped up by the ministers' methods and that external manifestations were carried on by 12 to 14 year old boys in his employ, who were encouraged with generosity when they went to various places. He claims to point people to Christ rather than to an experience or a system of religion. Other letters are to Dr Candlish and to James Sutherland of Novar Mains (another farm on the same Estate) who was evidently of the opposite persuasion. An uncommon book.
