Samuel Burder (1773-1836), was initially, like his uncle George Burder, an Independent minister, in St Albans from 1797. In 1808 he was ordained into the Church of England, ministering in London . In this book he illustrates particular expressions in Scripture mainly by quoting from other authors on the customs of the east, in a shorter and more popular manner than a somewhat similar work by Harmer.
